The Gates of Hell is a central work in the career of the greatest sculptor of the 19th century. The result of an intense creative phase that lasted nearly ten years, it provided Rodin with the opportunity to craft some of his most famous works, such as The Thinker and The Kiss, as well as many other groups and figures that served as material continually reinvented over the following decades.
